African School for Deaf Studies

(ASDS-Ghana 2019)

This upcoming African School for Deaf Studies (ASDS) is intended for only Deaf Africans and it take place in Accra-Ghana at the Linguistics Department-University of Ghana, Legon from 1st – 14th August 2019. This is going to be a two-weeks summer school on sign language issues and practical research skills.

The use of technological software for sign language analysis and sign language research is gradually gaining grounds in Europe and other parts of the world. Unfortunately, little can be said about the involvement of Deaf signers in Africa. This school aims at creating an opportunity where students and scholars from diverse background and specialisation could impact their academic and research knowledge to Deaf signers in Africa. The school will offer deaf participants analytical and research skills which will encourage them to create and contribute to sign language linguistics in Africa

Benefits to Students: Apart from student participants gaining research and sign language analytical skill that could help further their academic education, the school will help them develop international networks with faculty members and other students. Participants will also serve as ambassadors to what they have learnt when they go back to their respective universities/countries to share the knowledge acquired with their colleagues.
